The whole series could have been pared down to two books, and focused less on politics. I guess this was realistic, but yet I could not help but feel disappointed. ![]() It's pretty clear that in Red Mars, one of the issues that led to the bigger problem on Red Mars was overpopulation, and I feel that humanity was just basically given a free pass at the end of the trilogy because now humans are expanding to planets beyond Mars. Blue Mars was not without its fantastic (and I do mean fantastic parts) but it was also slogged down with some really slow-moving parts. I absolutely loved Red Mars, and enjoyed Green Mars. Green Mars was not quite as strong, but still a decent read. It was a chance find in a Little Free Library (seriously, support your local LFL!) and after reading the ending, I absolutely wanted more, and to learn what happens to the characters that made it to the end of Red Mars. ![]() ![]() The first book in this series, Red Mars, was absolutely enthralling. ![]() ![]() ![]() Philottson will play a significant role in Jude’s future life, and not in a good way, either.) Jude’s old schoolmaster, Richard Philottson, whom he admires and looks up to, has gone to Christminster. ![]() ![]() ![]() He views the college town of Christminster (Oxford), twenty miles away, as a center of learning and all that is fine in life. He longs to become an educated man, or even a minister, but, because of who he is and where he lives, he has little chance of ever being more than a stonemason, a trade he has chosen to provide enough money to support himself. Young Jude Fawley is a country lad without family or connections, raised by an elderly aunt who cares little for him. Jude the Obscure is a fascinating study of class distinction, conscience, and morality in the Victorian era. What was your favourite myth growing up, and has adulthood changed the way you see that story now? The Gilded Wolves has many references to stories often considered myths or legends today. We spoke with Roshani about favourite myths, developing and balancing individual characters within a larger cast, and finding oneself on bookshelves. It’s up to the reader to decide, but the book is probably not written from a Christian point of view. It’s never described properly, but it seems as though one of the characters is an angel, though not as we usually think of angels. There is said that somebody is an angel, but not quite. It’s never said to be any special religion but it is clear enough for the reader to make up their mind. There is a lot of spiritual content in this book. At one point, it seems like Michael disrespects his father, even though they become friends quite quickly. It is worth mentioning that Michael and Mina lie to his parents, even though they mean it for the best. ![]() All of them are good, even though Skellig might seem a bit doubtful at times. ![]() This story isn’t based on morals, and there are not any bad guys.
